Houston Swim Lessons
About Candy
Throughout infancy and childhood my parents were adamant about their kids becoming familiar and comfortable in the water. I am sure their reasoning was as much for safety as it was for leisurely activity...since many a family gathering ensued near an ocean, lake, river, or pool. That being said, I have known how to swim for as long as I have known how to walk.
Competitive swimming for me began at the age of 5 with summer and school leagues and continued until I went to college at the age of 18. During the course of athletic training I found an appreciation for good sportsmanship in working as a team to accomplish a desired goal, such as winning a swim meet, as well as the enjoyment in personal growth through pushing yourself to achieve.
In May of 2005 I received my Bachelor or Fine Arts in Psychology from the Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Upon completion of my undergraduate studies I moved back to Houston. I plan to return to school in the fall to work on pre-requisites for medical school, but in the mean time I am doing what I love- which is something that I have done every summer for the past 8 years: TEACH SWIM LESSONS!
In teaching swim lessons I have realized the wonderfully vast capacity one has to grow and learn, the adaptability an individual maintains in the face of both known and unforeseen obstacles, as well as the endurance of determined motivation. I have worked with both children and adults of all ages and enjoy every minute of it. There is nothing more gratifying than helping another person develop a lifelong skill that will be extremely useful in a multitude of ways.
