Las Vegas Swim Lessons

About Kat

I am a Las Vegas native and currently live in Henderson. I have loved being in the water my entire life and began taking swimming lessons when I was five years old. After watching the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, I decided to swim competitively. I swam for Foothill High School for four years, earned my Varsity White Letter, and served as Captain my senior year. In 2006, I joined the competitive team Boulder City-Henderson Heatwave and swam for just over a year and a half before I discovered that I needed orthoscopic knee surgery in October, which forced me to quit. In fall of 2008, I will be heading to Eugene, Oregon to pursue a History degree at the University of Oregon. I plan on attending law school afterwards.
I have been lifeguarding since March of 2006 with the City of Henderson and teaching private swimming lessons since I was fifteen. I absolutely love teaching; I love helping students reach their goals and improve their strokes. The best part is getting to know the families and seeing them have fun. Private lessons are a terrific way to get better results in a shorter amount of time because of the one-on-one attention. I look forward to working with your child this summer!

About Heidi

My lifelong passion for swimming has brought me much gratification over the years. I enjoyed swimming competitively for more than ten years while growing up in Seattle. Continuing to improve my own technique and that of others has been a natural progression ever since, allowing me to teach swimmers in just about every context over the past 20 years. I have taught introductory lessons for children and adults of every age and level, have swam and coached High School Swimming, adult Master's, triathletes, and have spent the past 10 years as Head Coach for two USA Swimming Clubs in Washington State, each with more than 120 swimmers competing.
In 2006, I was awarded Inland Empire Swimming Coach of the Year while coaching Spokane Waves Aquatic Team. I am proud to say that many of the children I have taught or coached have gone on to swim competitively in college, several have earned scholarships, and several are now coaching young competitors themselves.
Currently, I am certified in Red Cross CPR, Red Cross Lifeguard, USA Swimming, and American Swim Coaches Association Level Three.
My teaching style is fun and effective. I work to introduce relaxation techniques that develop comfort and a great 'feel' for the water. Moving through the water with efficiency keeps the heart rate lower, promotes safety, and improves performance for competitive swimmers, triathletes, and open water swimmers looking to refine strokes and increase endurance.
By choosing private lessons through Swim2you, you not only have the advantage of lessons on your own turf in an environment you and your children are comfortable with, you can also work to develop a personalized curriculum to meet yours and/or your swimmer's needs. I look forward to helping you exceed your goals!

About Kristin

I was born in Las Vegas and have been living in Henderson since I was very young. I began swimming as a kid and couldn't get enough of the water. My older brother swam competitively so I joined BCH Heatwave with him. I stopped swimming on the swim team when I decided to play sports like soccer and volleyball instead.
I just graduated from Foothill High School and in the fall I will be attending UNR to study biology. I have been a lifeguard for the City of Henderson for the past two years and have been teaching swim lessons since June 2007.
I love teaching swim lessons because I enjoy working with children and seeing them develop their skills. Teaching always puts me in a very good mood!

About Rebekah

I grew up in fabulous Las Vegas but moved to Arizona when I was a freshman in high school. I swam for Aqua Fria High school in Avondale, AZ. I won state in diving my freshman year in 2003. I became a lifeguard for Clark County Aquatics in 2006 where I got my Water Safety Instructor certification.
In the Summer of 2007 I decided I would rather teach swim lessons exclusively and was hired at a local swim school. After gaining some more experience there, I realized that I would be more productive working with students individually according to the specific needs of each student, instead of following a set curriculum.
So I now teach private lessons in the clients own pools which allows me to build a more solid foundation for each child. I love it! I look forward to working with your child and will strive for a successful 2008!

About Jarvis

As a pre-teen my mother worried that the Tennessee winters would prevent me from being active. So when pounds started to show she signed me up for swimming at the local indoor pool. Twenty years later I am still in the water and loving it. I currently swim for the Henderson Southern Nevada Masters and compete on Iron Man relays (my leg is 2.1 miles in Lake Mead).
I came to Las Vegas in 1994 on a swimming scholarship to UNLV, focusing on back stroke and freestyle. I am a four year letterman and still very active with the team. I have a B.S. in Finance and a B.A. in History and currently working on a M.A. in American History. I plan on teaching night classes at CCSN after I graduate.
During the college summers I worked as a lifeguard for the Clark County Pools & Recreation Department and managed Paradise Pool. I have taught swim lessons to hundreds of children over the years; ranging from six months to eighteen. I also coached many of the future competitive swimmers in this valley, with a few of them current and former college swimmers.
From the Parks & Recreation Department I joined up with a local competitive swim team, the Clark County Sandpipers, to be an Assistant Swim Coach. I have had kids go on to Northern Arizona University, Columbia University, and of course UNLV. From 1995 until 2003 it was also my pleasure to be part of the Greater Las Vegas Inner City Games, which allowed kids of all back grounds to learn swimming over the summer. I loved those summers because it gave kids the chance to learn a skill that was not too common for inner city youth.
Even though competitive swimming is my love, I take pride instructing the next generation. I focus my lessons on the joys of water exploration and safety around the pool. When a person, no matter their age, enters the water with me they are a swimmer and I am there to encourage and support them. I always work at the students pace and help them to achieve their desired skill level.

About Jim

When I was a child my parents had a swimming pool in our yard and my exceptionally talented cousin taught me how to swim. After learning how to swim I had an understanding of how to be careful in and around the water. This experience opened up a lot of opportunities for me to live and grow.
For many summers I enjoyed working as a lifeguard on the shores of Lake Erie. I have swam competitively on swim teams throughout my life. I made a lot of close friends along the way. I was fortunate enough to get a swimming scholarship while I attended Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
In college, I took on coaching an age group swim team, and this was very exciting. During one summer I worked as a counselor/coach at the University of Texas Longhorn swimming camp. This trip and many swim meets allowed me to see many places.
After graduating with a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education I came out to Las Vegas to teach second grade for the Clark County School District. Then I acquired my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in mathematics at UNLV.
I have continued to teach swim lessons through private instruction in the summers. I enjoy swimming on a Masters swim team in Las Vegas, and have volunteered as an assistant coach for my team. Being an educator in the classroom and in the pool is very rewarding. I really believe in learning and expanding your knowledge.
Swimming has always been a part of my life in some way and I am happy to make it a part of someone else's life. Whatever your goals are that involve swimming, I would like to help you accomplish them. I look forward to working with you and your child on your journey.
